To epibrow or not to epibrow

So I have been doing some research regarding the latest in brow care. I usually go for the Billion Dollar Brows however they always look amazing when I leave the salon but to try and recreate the look at home is just a disaster for me. Enter Epibrows!

Epibrow is the latest technique in the eyebrow world which looks at using a freehand technique to create an almost feathered look to your eyebrow creating the illusion of a natural brow look. It is a semi-permanent procedure usually lasting between 12-18months. If you are anything like be this sounds great - generally I like to roll out of bed and do the bare minimum to make myself look presentable before heading into work. Why would I not want to go for the epibrow look, particularly as it means I will always have the shape and definition of a good brow with minimal aftercare/maintenance once the procedure has been completed. Seems like a no brainer!

But wait....The look is created by a specially designed micro-blade making very tiny cuts into the epidermis then applying toner to create natural 3D hair strokes. This does not sound like fun. I am no newbie to pain - at university I got 2 tattoo's and I don't think they hurt too much - well maybe the one on my foot slightly as I nearly kicked the artist but i think that was more of a tickle then pain. Anyway I digress - if it means me not having to do hardly anything to my brows for up-to 18months I am open to give it a whirl. I could find lots of information on the procedure and that they do use lidocaine an anesthetic to numb the area but not much in the way of reviews. In light of this I took the plunge and though I will try and review it myself so here goes!

The lady I go to, Kate, who did my BDB makes me feel very relaxed and is very conscientious of her work so I had faith in the work she does. Anyone doing Epibrows should have a portfolio which they should let you see if you would like to. My eyebrows are okay but I do like them a bit darker and more defined. After discussing with Kate my expectations and what to expect I laid down and we began. To begin she applied the lidocaine to numb the area then began making the initial cuts to build up the bulk of my brow. Unfortunately I am a bleeder so initially it did hurt as she was making the cuts and the lidocaine was pushed out due to very slight bleeding - it felt very much like scratching. Once the cuts have been made more lidocaine was applied and then toner - which stings but this is what gives you the colour. The second round of cuts was much easier - the lidocaine had started to work - YIPEE. And so the previous steps were done again. In total there was 4-5 rounds of cuts, lidocaine and toner. The first and the last round I found the worst. Once the procedure was over I could not believe what Kate had managed to achieve - although my brows were very dark - much darker then they will be once the pigmentation has developed - I was instantly very pleased with the results. Pain/discomfort forgotten. I left very satisfied.

Aftercare: The area treated may show redness and swelling and the colour may look dark and intense - this is perfectly normal. For 24-48 hours you are not to get your brows wet if possible and you will go through 3 healing phases - Heal, Peel and Fade. Once the area has appealed (approximately 1 week) it is advised that you wear sun cream to discourage colour fade as this may cause the pigment to lighten. Something I did not realise and it would be worth bearing in mind is that The Red Cross have suggested that you do not give blood for 6months following the procedure. I would certainly of had to take this into serious consideration but at present I am unable to give blood due to an anaemia so please do consider this before going ahead with the procedure.

There is a follow up after 6/8 weeks included in the price to ensure you have the right shape, colour and to add further feather strokes to get the best shape. Now I realise I have not included the price yet - I paid £250 for this to be done. I pay £25 every 6 weeks for the BDB and in theory I should not need to have this done anymore - well maybe the occasional wax so I actually think it works out about right when you look at how long it last's and maintenance. It is just the initial cost which maybe off putting. In the coming weeks I am going to add to this post so you can she the changes of my eyebrows following the healing process and my 6 week consultation. At present I am very pleased with the results but watch this space to see how they progress.
